Cindy Gangstad,
Director of Children's Ministry

Welcome to Children's Ministry!

There is no higher calling than caring for the little ones God has entrusted to us. We promise to love and encourage your children as they begin their journey of faith. In the nursery and preschool rooms your child is introduced to the love of God, the name of Jesus, and songs and stories from the Bible. When your child moves to Elementary school our goal in Children's is to help them live into the vision of WHPC!  The curriculum for Elementary children fits perfectly into the vision to help the children make wise choices, to grow in faith, develop Christian friendships and learn to serve others and the world. If you have questions about any of our programs please give me a call at the church. Our staff is eager to meet you and help your child make friends at WHPC!
 SUNDAY MORNING
Since children’s developmental needs vary greatly from their early childhood years to elementary school, our Sunday morning programs are designed for each unique developmental stage.

Sunday School is the primary contact that most children have with the church and one of the most important hours a child spends each week. Our teachers are committed to your children—they know their job is important, and they seek to effectively relate Scripture to each child’s life through carefully planned lessons that are relevant and true to Scripture. Sunday School is held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m.

Sunday School Curriculum
Preschool - We use a curriculum from Willow Creek’s Promiseland called “In The Beginning.”  This is a basic nuts and bolts curriculum introducing your child to the Bible, God’s love and Jesus.

Kindergarten thru 5th - The Children's Ministry Team introduces our new Children's curriculum for Sunday School, titled "Rio".  To learn more about the philosophy of Rio we invite you to visit their website. Click here for more info.  You may also view the curriculum at the Sunday School Open House on August 29.  The first lesson will be September 4.

INFORMATION:
Check-in: For the safety and security of all children, we use a computer check-in sytem. Computers are located at the downstairs entrance to the Children's Ministy area.  All children must be checked in on the computer before going to their classrooms. Parents must also sign children in at each individual classroom.

Beepers: All parents of children in the birth thru 3 year old classrooms will be asked to take a beeper.  Please record the beeper number on the sign-in sheet. Only one beeper is needed per family.  Record the number from the first child when signing in a second or third child.
Drop off: Children may be dropped off 5 to 10 minutes before the start of a service or Sunday School.

Contained Classroom: All children in classes birth - 5th grade begin the hour in contained classrooms.

Pick upInfants through 4 year olds - Parents must sign children out from their classrooms.  These children may stay in their classrooms throughout the morning while their parents are attending church or Sunday School.
Kindergarten through 5th grade - Parents must sign children out from the gym by 10:40 a.m. or 12:10 p.m.

Grades K - 5, Staying for both Sunday School and Worship:
1. Sunday School:  Children should attend Sunday School the same hour that their parent does.
2. Worship Hour:  We encourage children to worship with their families.  Children in 3rd - 5th grades should remain with their parents in worship the whole hour.  After the Time for Young Disciples in the worship service, children in kindergarten through 2nd grade who have already attended a Sunday School class may be escorted to the Parlor for the Young Disciples Class.  These children will return to the Sanctuary after the sermon.  Preschool and younger may be taken downstairs to the appropriate classroom.
