Hurricane Harvey Recovery
Our WHPC community has already raised over $10,000 to benefit survivors of Hurricane Harvey, through online and grassroots fundraising. Within a week of the disaster, our congregation also donated several carloads full of essential toiletry and clothing items for storm evacuees as well. Thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to our neighbors in need!
For WHPC, this is only the beginning. Our congregation will continue to respond in the months ahead, sharing our gifts, talents, and time with our neighbors affected by the storm and its aftermath.
Here’s how you can support recovery efforts this month:
· Fill a clean-up bucket. Starting Sunday, September 10, our congregation will be putting together clean-up buckets for distribution in the affected areas. You can pick up a bucket at WHPC during our next Community Night, September 10, 5:00-7:00 PM, or on Sunday, September 17, after our regular worship services. Please return buckets, packed securely and sealed with packing tape, to the parlor on Sunday, September 17 and September 24, or to the church office during the week.
· Make a special offering to WHPC. During September, we will have an ongoing special offering to benefit those affected by Hurricane Harvey. If you would like to participate, simply designate a check for “Hurricane Harvey Recovery” and put it in the plate Sunday morning. You can also give online here. WHPC will put this special offering toward relief and recovery efforts coordinated by Mission Presbytery and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
And let’s stay in touch. Disaster relief, recovery, and renewal are key mission priorities for WHPC, our mission partners, our presbytery, and our denomination. We will continue to post information on this site and our Facebook page about how you can help.
