WHPC Task Force to Review Neighborhood Care Groups
Background
Based upon a recommendation from the Board of Deacons, the Session has appointed a Task Force to evaluate the current Neighborhood Care Group (NCG) structure for providing congregational care and to explore additional ways for WHPC to connect as a Christian Community within small groups. While several of our NCG’s are successfully providing small communities of care and fellowship within WHPC, many of the current groups have lost momentum over time. It is possible that the purpose of the NCG’s may have changed over the years and an evaluation of their mission and responsibilities is necessary.
Mission
WHPC needs an integrated, church-wide approach to care-giving and fellowship that helps make our “big” church feel more like a small church. The Task force will research successful programs at other growing churches and host “listening sessions” with WHPC Sunday school classes, bible study groups, and other gatherings of the WHPC membership. The goal is to identify ways to help WHPC support and care for the congregation through strengthening the NCG’s and possibly creating additional small group activities.
Timeline
The Task Force will be gathering outside research and conducting listening sessions throughout the summer and will conduct a broad survey of the full congregation in the early fall. Recommendations will be developed with a final report before Thanksgiving.
For further information
The membership of the Task Force consists of representation from the Board of Deacons, the Session, current NCG leaders, and the congregation. Please feel free to contact any of the task force members if you have questions or input.
