Manos de Cristo Clothes Closet
Did you know that you can donate clothing year-round to Manos de Cristo, right here at WHPC? Just leave new or gently used clothing in the marked cabinets right inside the first-floor Family Ministry / Preschool entrance on your left. Please note that baby clothes, work pants and professional outfits, and shoes are especially in high demand among our neighbors who rely on Manos de Cristo’s services. Your donations could help someone clothe their family or succeed in a job interview.
Manos de Cristo Back-to-School Report
On Thursday, August 2, 36 members of the WHPC community participated in Manos de Cristo’s annual Back-to-School event, which helps over 2,000 underserved children in East Austin start the school year off right. Together we helped kids from Pre-K to 5th grade pick out new school clothes, do art projects, and choose books to read—and with over 800 books having been donated by our church alone, they certainly had some choices to make! Every child went home that day with a new backpack full of school supplies, too. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to serve these children and their families.
Meal a Month
What’s the deal with those blue bags? Every second Tuesday of the month, our congregation shops for groceries to fill the Manos de Cristo food pantry in East Austin. By buying food, household supplies, and $5 HEB gift cards, we give critical help to our neighbors who struggle daily to make ends meet. Whether you’re a longtime blue-bag shopper or you’ve never tried it, we challenge you to participate this June. It makes a big difference: last year, the food pantry served nearly 4,500 people, including over 2,000 children. More than 700 blue bags, filled by our congregation, were a part of that.
Feel free to purchase as many cans, boxes and bags as you would like. Smaller serving size is usually best.
