“Hope deferred makes the heart sick” - Proverbs 13:12. A quick look at the world around us confirms the truth of this verse. People today are dying for a lack of hope. As a followers of Christ, we have a distinct advantage. Come learn about the firm foundation of God's promises as described by Max Lucado. Everyone is welcome.

Guest Tom Jackson teaches Week 1 of WHPC’s summer study on Max Lucado’s Unshakable Hope
This week, we dive into Genesis 1:26 to explore what it truly means to be an image bearer of God.

• Why your value comes from your Creator, not your culture or your "ledger."
•How to choose hope over fear when life gets stormy.
• A powerful lesson on dignity featuring NBA legend Maurice Cheeks.

In this 2nd session of our summer series on Max Lucado’s Unshakeable Hope, Mike Ussery dives into the reality of spiritual warfare. While the role of the enemy is debated across Christian traditions, Lucado reminds us that we are in an ongoing battle and bringing a "picnic basket to a battlefield" is a bad idea. Learn how to equip the Armor of God through consistent prayer, worship, and scripture, resting in the ultimate promise that the devil is a defeated foe and God has already won the day.

In Week 3 of our Unshakeable Hope study, Mike Douglas leads a thoughtful, conversational discussion diving into what it means to be heirs of God. Moving beyond standard definitions of a financial windfall, we cover biblical inheritance in Galatians 4 and Romans 8, reflecting on both the deep security the scriptures provide and the unexpected elements that come with it—including suffering and a call to action.

In Week 4 of our Unshakable Hope study, Phil Haag leads an enriching discussion on the foundations, forms, and practical applications of prayer. He explores how our daily prayer habits tie back to scriptural roots in Timothy & James—forming the familiar ACTS model (Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, Supplication)—and highlights how the PCUSA Book of Order places prayer directly at the heart of worship.

In Week 5 of Unshakable Hope, Jim Greene unpacks 1 Peter 5:5 ("God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble" ) and the dangers of letting ego steer our lives. We examine why arrogance blocks us from grace and how true humility opens the door to it.
